Glacial River Channel
West side of Highway 10-61
This five-mile-long valley curves gently from Hamlet Park to the Mississippi River across the
sandy plateau of the Langdon Terrace. It represents an ancient meander of an extinct glacial river (possibly a
distributary branch of Glacial River Warren) that is believed to have been formed about ten thousand years ago,
at a time when Paleo-Indian hunters tracked giant mastodon and bison through what is now Cottage Grove.
