Schilling Archeological District
Lower Grey Cloud Island [location confidential]
This regionally important prehistoric archeological site was excavated by the St. Paul Science
Museum in the 1950's and yielded information that contributed significantly to our understanding of the Early
Woodland Cultural Tradition, which flourished here more than two thousand years ago. In addition to the buried
remains of an ancient seasonal bivouac, the district includes 31 burial mounds.
