Zelch House
10174 - 70th St.
This spacious two-story gabled farmhouse occupies the site of Theodore Furber's 1846 pioneer
homestead, one of the earliest nodes of white settlement in southern Washington County. The house itself dates from the
1870's and includes several additions. For many years it was the residence of John Zelch, a German immigrant who
prospered as a breeder of draft horses and was elected to several terms in the state legislature. After Zelch's
retirement, this was the residence of the farm manager on the Cedarhurst estate.
