Protecting our natural resources in Cottage Grove has developed as a priority for the citizens.  The City Cottage Grove currently has watershed districts within the South Washington Watershed District (SWWD). The City has a Management Plan which outlines strategies to protect Cottage Grove ponds, wetlands and the discharge to the Mississippi River. 

The City has a Environmental Commission that reviews environmental issues within the community and makes recommendations to the City Council. 

Most recently, Cottage Grove has taken a leadership role in providing public education on environmental issues. The City publishes various environmentally-focused supplements to the Cottage Grove Reports newsletter monthly, which are included in monthly utility bills.
