Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Why does my credit card statement say a charge from "Active" for my lessons?
A. "Active" is the name of the provider that we use to process our registrations. This can be confusing because your statement will only say the word "Active" and not a description of what you registered for. If you have questions or concerns regarding any charges to your account the Recreation Department
(651-458-3400) can always help.
Q. Can my child wear double blade skates?
A. No, the Cottage Grove Skating School recommends leather single blade skates for lessons. Please make sure newly purchased skates are sharpened before your first lesson. They do NOT come sharpened when you purchase them.
Q. What do I do the first night of lessons?
A. Please arrive at the arena a minimum of 15 minutes before your lesson begins. If you require your skates to be sharpened arrive 45 minutes to 1 hour early. There will be a table in the arena entrance with your child's name tag on it. The name tags are color coded for each lesson. Next, go downstairs and put your child's skates on. You will notice the ice is divided in half. One half of the ice is used for practice time. The second side of the ice is used for lessons. Parents are welcome to join their child for the practice portion of the lesson. Please pay close attention to the inexperienced skaters and be careful when skating around them. The teachers will announce the levels they are teaching. This is when your child can skate over to their group and meet their teacher. When lessons have finished please remove your child's skates and make room for the next group of lessons. If you would like to visit with your friends you can do so in the lobby or the concession area of the rink.
Q. What if my nametag is not on the table?
A. Stop in the office and someone will be more than happy to help you out.
