Skating Lesson Discount

In an effort to keep participation costs down, we offer a lesson discount program. Individuals PRE-REGISTERING at least 1 week before lessons begin receive a 10% discount off all classes.  See below for exact dates.

Skating Skills for the Beginner Hockey Player

Join the Cottage Grove Ice Arena for a fun beginner skating clinic for the beginner hockey player.  Liatra Oss, ISI certified skating instructor, will provide an introduction to the fundamentals of skating to help prepare for the upcoming hockey season.  Skaters will focus on basic skating skills that include:  Standing/falling, balance, forward and backward glides, power turns, crossovers, various stops and starts, and how to change direction.  This clinic will help improve the beginner hockey player's skating skills which will allow them to increase their confidence on the ice. Skaters may be divided into groups according to skill level. A 15-20 minute free time is scheduled with each lesson to provide skaters the opportunity to practice skills learned or play hockey.  Pre-registration is required.

U12/U14 Hockey Clinic - $100

Hockey tryouts will be here before you know it!  Prepare your daughter for the  2010-2011 hockey season with the Cottage grove Ice Arena's pre-tryout clinic.  Coach Dick Tinnucci will instruct participants on edge work, tryout drills, shooting, and puck handling.  Register early!  Space is limited to 30 skaters and registration will be open to surrounding communities June 1, 2010.

Skating Lessons 

  

Our Learn-To-Skate program is designed to prepare participants for all ice sports including; recreational skating, figure skating, hockey and speed skating.  Group lessons allow you to socialize with others while developing skills faster therefore eliminating the struggle to learn on your own.  Students are individually evaluated at the start of each session to make certain they are in the appropriate level.  A "Skate Savers Card" ($40 value) is included in the registration fee for the following classes;  Skating Tots, Levels 1-4, Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, and Adult Lessons (see details below).  Cards will be mailed after the second class.  Achievement awards are presented as skaters pass each level.

Please come prepared with

  • leather, single blade hockey or figure skates which are properly sharpened
  • mittens or gloves
  • warm and comfortable clothing
  • a bike/hockey helmet if your skater is 5 or younger

First night of lessons

  • arrive 15 minutes early
  • find your color coded nametag in the arena lobby
  • use the assigned area to get dressed for lessons
  • identify your coach and designated lesson area on the ice according to your nametag color
  • take an arena schedule of events to be aware of public skating times
  • a "Skaters Savers Card" will be mailed to you after the first class.

Skating Tots - $67

Beginner skaters ages 3-5; who have never skated before.  Skaters will play games and sing songs as they develop skills needed to balance and move across the ice.

Team Compulsory - TBD

Skaters Delta level and above will perform synchronized skating as a team.  Skaters needs approval from the Director before registering.  If you are interested you must attend a mandatory meeting in the Arena Meeting Room at 5:45pm on August 26, 2010.  Fee's will be dicussed at the meeting.  This team will skate at the 2011 ISI World Championship Competition held at the Blaine National Sport Center in July 2011.

Youth Synchronized Skating -
Skaters must have completed Delta.  Skaters will learn the basics of synchronized skating set to music. Skaters will participate in a team environment while learning and strengthening skills that will improve their individual skating while making friends and having fun.  All Synchronized Skating Teams are by invite only. 

Fine Line Teen - The Teen Fine Line consists of a group of skaters over age 12 currently at Delta level and higher.  Skaters have mastered the basics of good synchronized skating and are now executing moves and formation with good carriage, speed, expression, difficulty, and accuracy.  Skaters will learn two programs:  compulsory program and a synchronized skating program.  The Fine Line performs in multiple competitions and exhibitions.

Dates and Times to be determined

Dream Team - $85 (does not include costume and entry fees) - The Youth Dream Team consists of skaters currently in Freestyle Levels 1-4.  Skaters are ages 9-13.  The Dream Team will compete in 3 competitions and perform the annual Cottage Grove Ice Show.

Dreamsicles - $77 (does not include cost of costumes or entry fees) - The Dreamsicles Team consists of skaters levels Beta-Freestyle 1.  This Team consists of skaters ages 7-12.  the Dreamsicles will perform in competitions and the ICe Show.
