Learn to Skate Program
The Cottage Grove Ice-Skating School, under the direction of Liatra Oss (Director), provides a wide
range of lesson programs for all ages and abilities during the summer, fall, winter and early spring months.
Group lessons are offered each week, providing group instruction and practice time each day. Program participants range in age from three to adult. Instruction is provided for recreational
skating and/or competitive skating for hockey or figure skaters. The Cottage Grove Skating School is an active member of the Ice Skating Institute of America.
All instructors in the program are certified ISI coaches. Beginning skaters are instructed on how to start and stop, perform crossover steps and edge
control. Once these basics are mastered they learn to perform spins, turns and jumps.
Evaluations
Students are individually
evaluated at the start of each session to make certain they are in the appropriate levels. Some skaters may be regrouped during the first two weeks of class. This will match skaters with the class that will benifit them the most Skaters will be
evaluated at the end of each session to determine if they are eligible to move up to the next skill level.
Advanced Lessons
The CG Skating School also offers a freestyle program and enhancement classes for power and
artistic movement for the more accomplished skaters. Skaters learn to put together their accomplished maneuvers
into a skating program with music. These classes prepare the students to compete in local, regional and national competitions at
their appropriate test levels. Our program has had several students enter the professional world of figure
skating including Disney on Ice and the Ice Capades.
Private Lessons
For those interested, private lessons are also available during "contract ice" times for more instruction.
Skating Competitions
Students will have the opportunity to participate on synchronized skating teams which perform
in both competitions and shows. These teams are comprised of 12 to 24 skaters. Try-outs are offered in
August of each year for these teams.

Ice Show
The Skating School provides an Annual Ice Show at the Cottage Grove Ice Arena each spring. This show consists of both individual and group numbers and are choreographed to music and themes. This is an opportunity for skaters of all levels to showcase their many skills they have developed through the group lesson program.
