The City of Cottage Grove Recreation Department offers activities for youth ages 5 to 12 years old.

2010 Strawberry Fest Programs
Rink Rave
Enjoy a Monday at the Cottage grove Ice Arena instead of going to school. There will be plenty of options to choose from: crafts, movies, ice skating, board games, coloring contests, and much more. We do not have rental skates available; however there will be plenty to do if you do not skate. A hot dog, french fries, and pop will be served for lunch, feel free to bring along extra beverages and snacks. We will gathering the meeting room on the West Rink.

Spring Break 2010
Spring Break is right around the corner and what better way to spend it than at Peter Thompson Park? Be sure to bring your own beverages, snacks, and lunch each day except Friday. We recommend to send an extra set of dry clothes and outdoor play gear each day. Participants may register by day or register for the entire week at a discounted price.

Monday - Woodbury Movie Theater - $28
After lunch we will board the bus to the movie theater, bring extra money for snacks if you would like. The movie will be "G" rated and and determined the week before. We will be eating lunch at the park before we leave.
Tuesday - Ping Pong Competition - $18
The days events include a singles and doubles ping pong competition and skills game. Candy prizes for everyone. Bring your lunch and snacks.
Wednesday - Wooddale Fun Zone - $28
Roller skate the afternoon away at Wooddale Fun Zone. Included in the admission is roller skate rental and 12 arcade tokens. There is an additional cost to rent roller blades. We will be eating lunch at the park before we leave.
Thursday - Thrifty Thursday - $18
Wear your pajamas and enjoy an afternoon of popcorn and a movie. Bring your lunch and snacks.
Friday - Pizza and Pop - $20
End your marvelous spring break with pizza and pop for lunch!
Cottage Grove Boy's Lacrosse League
The Cottage Grove Recreation Department is offering a Boy's lacrosse League in 2010. Our teams will be competing against local teams in the East District Lacrosse Minnesota League. The League includes White Bear Lake, Woodbury, Mahtomedi, St. Paul, Stillwater, Hudson, and Inver Grove Heights. Teams practice 2 times per week and have 1-2 games per week for 10 weeks. The league runs May-July. Practice and game schedule information will be available late April. Our home field is at Hillside Elementary. Some travel is required for these leagues and transportation is the parents responsibility. Proper equipment is required: attack stick, lacrosse helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, lacrosse gloves, and mouth guard. Cleats are not required. Goalie equipment and balls for each team is provided. Team jerseys are included in the registration fee. Other apparel will be available for purchase at the beginning of the season. Please register for the grade that the participant is currently in. The fee is $140 per player. All participants need a current US Lacrosse member ID at time of registration ($25/year) - www.uslacrosse.org We are also looking for coaches and managers for each team, please call if you are interested. Registration deadline is April 1, 2010.

Rec. Works - Summer Volunteer Training
This program is a must for anyone interested in volunteering during Summer Playground Programs. Youth will learn how to work with children, program events, prepare for projects, become knowledgeable of summer programs, participate in cooperative games with summer playground leaders and take part in sexual harassment prevention training. The cost of the program includes supplies, 2010 recreation t-shirt and lunch. Please bring the park location and hours you would like to volunteer this summer to the training.

Open Playgrounds
If your child wants to be involved in the Summer Playground Programs, but you don't need all day supervision, maybe Open Playgrounds is the right option for you. Both Playground Programs follow the same schedule and weekly themes, however no pre-registration is required and youth may come and go as they like. Please remember that our staff are not accountable for the youth if they choose to leave the park. Also, we do not offer receipts for Open Playgrounds.

Open Field
We are organizing a new program; Open Field! this program is designed to encourage youth of all skill levels looking to stay active during the summer. Staff will be onsite to start games, provide limited equipment, and supervise. Games will not be officiated. All participants should bring their own equipment when possible and be willing to share if needed. This is a great way to get involved in recreational sports and make some new friends at the same time. Open Field is a drop-in program; participants sign-in and pay ($3/day) at the park. Gatorade will be provided each day for participants. If there is lack of participation after 7/7/10; the remaining program dates will be cancelled.

Beginner Youth Tennis Lessons
Lessons are Monday through Friday. Each lesson registration includes five days of instruction, a racquet designed for their age and a t-shirt. Classes are structured so that participants can learn the skills, practice the techniques, and have fun! These lessons are a great way to get introduced to the life-time sport of tennis. The cost for each session is $55. There is a maximum of 10 participants per class.

Advanced Youth Tennis Lessons
Lessons are Monday through Friday. Each lesson registration includes five days of advanced instruction, a racquet deigned for their age and a 3 pack of balls. Classes are structured so that participants can refine their skills and advance their game of tennis. the cost for each session is $55. There is a maximum of 10 participants per class.

Take a Child Fishing Day
The Cottage Grove Recreation Department, MinnAqua, and the DNR have stocked Hidden Valley Pond for another great fishing season. This one-day event, sponsored by all 3 organizations, is open to anyone interested in fishing or wanting to learn more about fish. there will be different skills for fishing, including fish identification, baiting, fish handling, casting, and others. We have a limited number of fishing poles available; please bring your own. Bait will be provided. Youth ages 18 and younger will not need a fishing license to fish during this one-day event; anyone older does need a license to fish. Lunch will be available for purchase for a small fee

Minnesota Twins Trip
Root, Root, Root for the home team....On June 30, 2010, as the Twins take on the Detroit Tigers at Target Field. Enjoy the summer weather and a great ball game. We will be attending the game regardless of the weather conditions unless it is cancelled. Please bring money for lunch/snacks or a bag lunch. We will not be able to leave items on the bus. We will split into small groups; but youth will always be with a supervisor. There is a $5 discount for those enrolled is Supervised Playground. Pre-registration is required for this trip.

Fish Camp
Explore underwater habitat, learn about water stewardship, understand the need for regulations. and improve your fishing techniques. You'll discover who's who in the underwater world and how you can help take care of them. Equipment will be provided by the program. The registration fee includes staff supervision, a starter tackle box, a kid's activity book, and much more. The first day of camp, all participants should check in at the picnic shelter. You will not need a park pass to drop-off and pick-up campers in the park. Participants need to bring their own lunch and beverages. Refrigeration will not be available.

Cheerleading Camp
This introductory camp will explore cheerleading in a fun and noncompetitive setting, while learning motion/jump techniques and sideline/performance cheers. this final day participants will perform a cheerleading program for family and friends. All participants should wear shorts, t-shirt, and tennis shoes and bring a small snack and sun screen. Participants will receive pom-poms and a water bottle to use during the class and keep.

Minnesota Zoo
We will spend the day learning about different animals, visit the indoor Theater to watch the World of Birds Show,observe the coral reef shard and fish feeding and Russia's Grizzly Coast. Safety Camp
The Cottage Grove Recreation Police, and Fire Departments are teaming up to encourage youth safety. During this 3 day camp, participants will experience and learn about a variety of safety issues including 911, bike safety, water safety, fire prevention, kitchen safety, electrical safety,, first aid, shopping mall safety and so much more! The cost of the program includes 30 safety presentations, team picture the 2010 dvd, t-shirt, team colored hat, lunches, snacks, water bottle, all sport helmet, and graduation medal. A Graduation Ceremony for parents, relatives,a nd friends of the graduates closes the camp on Thursday, July 22 at 5:00pm. Please bring you lawn chairs.

2010 Carnival and Talent Show
Mark your calendar for this years Playground Carnival and Talent Show which will be held at Highlands Park! Choose from a variety of carnival games. You will have the chance to earn prize tickets by playing the carnival games and exchange them for some awesome prizes. Plan to stay for the day and have lunch with us. Pizza, candy and kool-aid will be available to purchase for lunch. Start practicing for the Talent Show! All entrants must sign-up at the Carnival by Noon. Each entrant will have the stage for 1 minute. The Talent Show begins at 1:00pm.

Cascade Bay
Join the Recreation Department as we take a trip to Cascade Bay Water Park in July. Spend the day enjoying the lazy river, building a sand castle at Sandpiper Beach, wading in the zero depth entry, playing with the spray at Ship Wreck Cove or test your nerves on one of four super chute water slides. Be sure to wear your swimsuit and bring your towel, sunscreen and lunch/money. All participants should be comfortable in the water. There is a $5 discount for those enrolled in Supervised Playground. Pre-registration is required for this trip.

Don't miss this years Kids in Plays as youth who are involved in the playgrounds debut their performances at Highlands Park. Check with your local park for rehearsal times if you want to get involved. There is no fee for the day. Pizza, candy and kool-aid will be available to purchase for lunch.

Introductory Lacrosse Camps
Lacrosse Camps are designed for boys and girls of all ages regardless of skill or ability. Greg Rinzel, Cottage Grove Lacrosse Coach, will teach the fundamental skills of lacrosse using small group activities, scrimmages and fun games. Individual skills taught include: catching throwing scooping, and cradling. They will also focus on helping the kids learn the rules of lacrosse while working on team play and sportsmanship. All necessary equipment will be provided; participants may bring their own sticks. Participants should also bring water and wear clothes suitable for running/high activity.

Adventure Camp
Each camper will be placed on one of four different colored teams during Adventure Camp. Along with their team they will be experiencing a variety of exciting outdoor adventures. Adventures include arts and crafts, cooking lunch for the camp, nature skilled game challenges and much more. Everyday is filled with plenty of new and exciting events. This is a great way to complete your summer fun with the Recreation Department, the cost of the program includes lunches, Bring a white t-shirt the first day of camp to tie-dye your team color. Watch the web site in June for this year's theme.

Summer Slam
We are offering one more week of fun filled adventures at Peter Thompson Park. This is a great park to play on the playground, shoot a game of basketball or a pick-up game of kickball. This program will be run similar to the Supervised Playground Program; it is only offered at one park due to staffing. Participants are required to bring their own lunch/snacks each day except on Friday, September 3, we will be providing lunch.
