The Cottage Grove Police Department has adopted a Community Oriented Policing approach to solving problems on a neighborhood level. To accomplish this the city has been divided into 3 geographic areas (north, south and business) with officers assigned individual team areas with the responsibility of working with those neighborhoods to identify and deal with the problems the residents and business personnel identify as important to them.

The team officers are supervised by a sergeant assigned to each specific team area, and they have the leeway to develop and implement plans of action best suited for each neighborhood or business.

Officers will meet with individuals, groups or can hold a neighborhood meeting to resolve problems if appropriate.
