National Night Out

This year the National Night Out Celebration will be held on Tuesday, August 5th, 2008.  The focus will be on neighborhood parties.  The Cottage Grove Department of Public Safety and the Cottage Grove Crime Board are encouraging citizens to plan their own block party for that evening.NNO Logo

Highlights this year will include:

  • Police Officer and Squad Visits
  • Fire Fighter and Fire Truck Visits
  • McGruff the Crime Dog
  • 'Free' Bike Registration
  • 'Free" Helium Balloons
  • Our K9 Blitz
  • 'Fill the Backpack' campaign
  • 'Fill the Bag' food campaign
  • Mayor and City Council member visits
  • And much, much more!

National Night Out is observed annually on the first Tuesday in August and provides citizens and public safety personnel the opportunity to join together to give crime, drugs and violence a going away party.  It is sponsored by the Cottage Grove Department of Public Safety and the Cottage Grove Crime Prevention Board.

National Night Out is designed to:

  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
  • Generate support for and participation in anti-crime efforts
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
  • Send a message to criminal letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back

This year's National Night Out will take place on Tuesday, August 5th, 2008.

Last year, over 2,000 Cottage Grove residents participated in National Night Out.

FILL THE BAG FOOD CAMPAIGN

During our National Night Out Celebrations we will be collecting items for the Friends in Need Food Shelf.   Each neighborhood gathering will be given a Cub box which they will be asked to fill.  The boxes will be collected the following day and delivered to the Food Shelf.  We hope you will all join in this endeavor!

FILL THE BACKPACK CAMPAIGN

The idea behind this campaign is to provide needed school supplies to our neighborhood schools.  Each year there are   students in need of supplies.  It is our hope that we can assist our schools and these students

Each neighborhood that participates in the National Night Out Celebration will be given a backpack to fill.  Your neighbors will be encouraged to bring school items to your gathering.  The items will be placed in the backpack and the filled backpack will be given to your neighborhood school

We are excited about this campaign and we encourage everyone to participate in this wonderful community event

Let’s work together to make the start of the school year an exciting one for all students!
