Night to Unite!

This year the Night to Unite Celebration will be held on Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011.  The focus will be on neighborhood parties.  The Cottage Grove Department of Public Safety and the Cottage Grove Crime Board are encouraging citizens to plan their own block party for that evening.  You can download a registration form here.  By registering your party early you are eligible to receive free helium balloons, visits to your party by McGruff, the police and/or fire departments, city officials, or our K9 Blitz.  You’ll also receive a box containing a variety of things to use or give away at your party.   Registration deadline is Tuesday, July 26th.

Highlights this year will include:Night to Unite Logo

Night to Unite is observed annually on the first Tuesday in August and provides citizens and public safety personnel the opportunity to join together to give crime, drugs and violence a going away party.  It is sponsored by the Cottage Grove Department of Public Safety and the Cottage Grove Crime Prevention Board.

Night to Unite is designed to:

  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
  • Generate support for and participation in anti-crime efforts
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
  • Send a message to criminal letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back

This year's Night to Unite will take place on Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011.

Last year, over 2,000 Cottage Grove residents participated in Night to Unite.

FILL THE BOX FOOD CAMPAIGN

During our Night to Unite Celebrations we will be collecting items for the Friends in Need Food Shelf.   Each neighborhood gathering will be given a Cub box which they will be asked to fill.  This year the Friends in Need Food Shelf are also encouraging people to donate cash and toiletries instead of canned goods. They are able to purchase more with the cash donations than what they would recieve as food donations. The boxes will be collected the following day and delivered to the Friends in Need Food Shelf.  We hope you will all join in this endeavor!

FILL THE BACKPACK CAMPAIGN

The idea behind this campaign is to provide needed school supplies to our neighborhood schools.  Each year there are   students in need of supplies.  It is our hope that we can assist our schools and these students

Each neighborhood that participates in the Night to Unite Celebration will be given a backpack to fill.  Your neighbors will be encouraged to bring school items to your gathering.  The items will be placed in the backpack and the filled backpack will be given to the Friends in Need Foodshelf, who will give them to local school children in the fall before school starts.

We are excited about this campaign and we encourage everyone to participate in this wonderful community event

Let’s work together to make the start of the school year an exciting one for all students!
