Ribbon Cutting for Snap Fitness Expansion in Cottage Grove
Snap Fitness held a ribbon cutting yesterday for another great 1800 sq/ft expansion of their facility at 8700 East Pt. Douglas Rd. in Cottage Grove. The expansion includes a 750 sq/ft “Fitness on Demand Room,” where various workout programs can be called up on a computer and projected onto a large screen. Customers can then use the equipment in the room and match the moves of the instructors on the screen. The room gives work out enthusiasts the ability to step, run and bend anytime their schedules permits. Owner, Josh Malaske, has also put together a full Group Fitness Class schedule which includes Cycling, Pilates, Yoga, Latin Hip Hop, Kickboxing and a whole lot more with a basic membership plan. For more information please call Josh at 651-769-2944 or go to their web site at http://www.snapfitness.com/cottagegrove.

Slip Lining Technology Saves Cottage Grove Time and Money
Late last year, Cottage Grove City staff noticed a crack in a 66 inch (diameter) concrete storm water pipe that is designed to carry excess storm water runoff from the streets of Cottage Grove during a heavy rainfall. According to Brian Bellemare of Stantec, an engineering consulting firm, “the existing concrete pipe is 50 years old and it’s showing signs of deterioration around the invert which is the bottom side of the pipe.”
The city decided to think outside the box and instead of digging up the ground, removing the old pipe, installing a new one, and then reconstructing the surface, a more efficient and cost effective solution was chosen. The City settled upon a method that involves slipping a 60 inch diameter fiberglass reinforced polymer pipe inside the existing 66 inch concrete pipe. “We don’t have to dig up any of the dirt, says Mr. Bellemare, “we don’t have to excavate anything. This is a big benefit because this pipe runs underneath railroad tracks as well as a local walkway and none of the vegetation has to be disturbed.”
According to City officials, bids that came in were about 10% lower than expected and as a time saver this method can’t be beat. It only takes workers minutes to move, connect, and install each 4,000 pound pipe section. For a great video of this story please click the following address. http://vimeo.com/34617754
