Process

One requirement the City of Cottage Grove met was to create a five year Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP). In the document, the City outlined what it would do to reduce or eliminate storm water pollution in six key areas of compliance (also known as Minimum Control Measures, or MCMs):

  1. Public Education and Outreach
  2. Public Participation and Involvement
  3. Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination
  4. Construction Site Runoff Control
  5. Post-Construction Runoff Control
  6. Pollution Prevention/Good Housekeeping

For each of the MCMs, the City already had or created best management practices to fulfill the permit requirements.

Cottage Grove's SWPPP is online. Residents are encouraged to review it and get involved with helping maintain or improve the water quality of local water bodies. To contact city staff about the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Program e-mail bvoelker@cottage-grove.org or call the city hotline for more information at (651) 458-6057, and select option 5.
