Tree Selection & Planting
Before selecting trees and shrubs for your property, it is important to prepare a well-designed
landscape plan. The plan will identify the appropriate number, type and location of desired plant material.
When planting young trees, it is important to consider how large the trees will be at maturity.
Each tree variety will have certain size and shape characteristics. In order for your trees to thrive in the
urban landscape, they must be given enough space to grow to their adult size. Also, they should be properly planted
where site conditions closely match the tree's environmental requirements.
Remember: Before digging any planting holes, it is essential that all underground utilities
are located. The Gopher State One Call system has
been established to identify and locate all underground utility cables, lines and mains. Utility locations should
be requested at least 2 working days prior to the time of planting. The number to call for utility locations is
(651) 454-0002 in Metro or (800) 252-1166 in MN Toll Free.
