Streets
The Public Works Streets division maintains the City of Cottage Grove streets and sidewalks. Their areas of responsibility include snow removal, street maintenance and street signage. The Streets division
is also involved in the implementation of redevelopment and revitalization programs throughout the community.
Snow Removal
During the months of October through April, the Public Works Streets division’s main priority is the removal of
snow from the city streets. The Streets division will begin snow removal when there is two inches or more of
accumulated snow in the City of Cottage Grove. The process of snow removal from both city streets, walking
trails and sidewalks takes anywhere from six to eight hours to complete to ensure city residents have safe
traveling conditions. All of the Public Works divisions including Utilities, Parks Maintenance and Fleet
Maintenance assist the Streets division in snow removal to ensure the quickest snow removal for the City’s
residents.
Spring Road Restrictions
The spring road restrictions are regulated by the Minnesota Department of Transportations. The City of Cottage has posted all streets that have a weight restriction. If you have any additional questions please call the City of Cottage Grove Public Works at 651-458-2808. To download a Road Restriction Variance Permit please click here and fax completed permit to Cottage Grove Public Works at 651-458-6080.
Parking Regulations, City Code
To assist in providing a safer and more efficient snow removal operation, the City Council has established
parking regulations which are in effect from October 1 to April 30 of each year.
Between October 1st and April 30th, no vehicle shall be permitted on the
streets of the city between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on any day. On-street parking shall be permitted only when it does not interfere with the removal of snow and ice from city
streets. Vehicles parked on streets during snow removal operations shall be removed from the street by their owners
within 15 minutes of demand made by a city employee for such removal. Placing of snow in the street or plowing across the street is against state law and city code. Snow should
be shoveled or plowed onto your own property or boulevard. Snow placed in the street can cause accidents and
will compact into ice when driven over by traffic.

Street Maintenance
When the Streets division of Public Works is not snowplowing, they are performing various types of street
maintenance. These types of services include street sweeping, seal coating, patching, boulevard repair and
reconstruction of city streets. Street Maintenance is also involved in the implementation of a street improvement
and redevelopment program called the Pavement Management Program. This program is completed on a rotating basis
once a year. Every year, a section of city streets are assessed for improvement or reconstruction and the Streets
division completes the work on that section of streets.

Garage Sale Signs
Garage Sale season is right around the corner and the Public Works Department wants to remind residents that it
is unlawful to attach any type of sign to a regulatory sign or post (such as a Stop sign) or to a street
light pole.
Garage Sale and similar signs should be placed on wooden stakes or an "A" frame type of
placard. Residents should use caution when placing their signs and pay particular attention to ensure that the sign
will not block driver vision. After the sale is over, residents should remove their signs as soon as
possible.
