The winners in the City’s 2016 photo contest were announced Feb. 1 by the Cottage Grove City Council.
- Russ Stoeckel won in the celebrations and events with his photo of the holiday lights on the tree outside Cottage Grove’s City Hall building.
- Bill Pohlmann won in the historical category for his photo titled “The Old Barn”. The barn is located by Keats Avenue near the Cottage Grove Middle School.
- Gene Smallidge won in the nature category for his photo “Oh What a Beautiful Morning”. The photo features cows silhouetted by the sunrise and was taken at the Smallidge Farm in Cottage Grove.
- Nathan Klok won in three categories. His aerial photo of Hazen P. Mooers Park won in the parks and trails category, the photo of people waving American flags while standing on the 80th Street Bridge in Cottage Grove won in the people category, and the photo of police cars driving underneath the 80th Street Bridge won in the streetscapes category.
The top photographers were awarded $50 for each winning photograph. Their photographs will be on display at City Hall and featured in City print and electronic publications.
The City thanks everyone who submitted a photo in the contest. Each of the 43 entries reflected the amazing talent in this community.
Entries are accepted year-round with a deadline of Dec. 29, 2017.
